The saving is only available to Tesco Mobile pay monthly and SIM only customers with an Android 4.0 or above smartphone, who have data included in their tariff. You must have joined, upgraded, or changed tariff on, or after, 8 August 2013 to be eligible for the saving. The Xtras app and discount is not guaranteed over your contract term and Tesco Mobile reserves the right to discontinue the Xtras app and discount at any time.     Who can get Xtras?

    Which customers can get Xtras?
    You can get Xtras on pay monthly, whether you're already with us or if you're a new customer. You need to have started your pay monthly tariff from 8 August 2013 onwards and it needs to include data. You also need to confirm that you're 13 or older, and have permission from a parent or legal guardian if you're under 18.
    Which devices can I get Xtras on?
    You can get Xtras if you've got a smartphone running Android 4.0 or above. Xtras doesn't work on iPhones, iOS devices or Android tablets.
    Is Xtras available on any Tesco Mobile tariffs?
    Xtras is available on all pay monthly tariffs with data included that started on or after 8 August 2013, including SIM only tariffs. Xtras isn't available on pay as you go right now.
    How old do I have to be to use Xtras?
    To use Xtras you'll need to confirm you're aged 13 years or older. If you're between 13 and 17 you need to get permission from a parent or legal guardian first.

    How can I stop my kids signing up for Xtras?
    The best way to stop your kids signing up for Xtras is to set the parental controls for their phone to the 'under 12s' setting, even if your child is older than this. Just go to, My Account, click 'My Tariff and credit agreement documents', then 'update'. Then you can set content settings for under 12s, under 18s or 18+. You can also call 282 for free to do this.
    What if my child has already downloaded Xtras?
    If your child has already downloaded Xtras, then just delete the app and set the parental controls for under 12s. They won't be able to sign up for Xtras again.

    Info about Unlockd

    What does 'powered by Unlockd' mean?
    Unlockd is our third party partner who we're working with to bring you Xtras. They created the app and manage it for us. Their Privacy Policy, which you need to consent to when signing up, explains what data they'll collect from you, how they use it and their processes for storing this data.

    How Xtras works

    Where can I download the Xtras app?
    It's free to download from Google Play.
    How much time do I need to spend looking at each ad, offer or piece of content?
    There’s no set time. There aren't any videos to play, just single pages, sometimes with animations (e.g. GIFs), which show on your phone when you unlock it. You can click through if you're interested, save it for later or just close it if it's not for you. Each time a page shows on your screen it counts towards the total of 21 days in a month that you need to see Xtras to get your discount.
    What types of ads, offers or content will I see with Xtras?
    Any type of content depending on your age, gender and interests: from health & fitness, beauty, home & gardening to news and special offers. You can add your interests when you register, so the content you'll see will be based on what you're interested in, but you'll still see other types of content too.
    Who is the Xtras content suitable for?
    All Xtras content is suitable for anyone aged 13 or over. We may use age-rated content in the future so please make sure you tell us your real age when you sign up for Xtras.
    Will I be charged for data when I'm using Xtras?
    Xtras uses data to show you the ads, offers and content on your phone. To cover this data usage, we give you an extra 200MB every month. It can take up to five working days after you register for Xtras for us to apply this extra 200MB to your account. If you use Xtras before we do this and you've used up your data allowance, including the extra 200MB we give you, you'll be charged at your standard rate.     What happens if I change my device?
    If you change your device and keep the same number, you'll need to download Xtras again and re-register as soon as you can so you don't miss out your discount on your next bill. Remember, to get your discount you need to see one piece of Xtras content each day for 21 days in your billing month.
    Can I use Xtras on a second device?
    No, Xtras only works on one device at a time. If you register using a new device with the same phone number, Xtras will stop working on your old device.
    Can I use the Xtras app outside the UK?
    Yes, but only if you're connected to Wi-Fi. Xtras will automatically pause when you're abroad if it doesn't pick up a Wi-Fi signal, so you don't need to worry about using up data while you're away. But remember, to get your discount you need to see at least one ad, offer or piece of content each day for 21 days of your billing month.
    How many ads, offers and content will I see each day?
    Over a whole day, you'll see ads, offers and content around 60 times. The average phone user unlocks their phone around 150 times a day.

    Technical stuff

    How do I find out which version of Android I'm using?
    It depends on your device but you can usually find in your settings, under 'About Device'.

    Getting your Xtras discount

    How do I get the money off my bill?
    You get £3 off your bill every month if you have the Xtras app switched on during 21 days of your billing month and see at least one ad, offer or piece of content on each of those days.
    I've got all my family's mobiles on Tesco Mobile, how much money can I get off my total bill?
    You could get £3 off a month for each eligible mobile number on Android 4.0 or above. They'd all need to sign up to Xtras on their phone and make sure they see at least one piece of Xtras content each day for 21 days in their billing month. So, if you've got five eligible numbers on your Tesco Mobile account, you could get £15 off your total bill in a month.
    I'm on Anytime Upgrade, which payment will be discounted?
    If you're on an Anytime Upgrade and you're on track for your discount, we'll knock the £3 a month off your usage payment. We're sorry, but you can't put it towards paying off your device.

    Will Xtras affect how my phone works?

    Will I see ads, offers or content when my phone rings?
    No, you'll only see the content when you unlock your phone
    Does the Xtras app interfere with the clock/alarm on my phone?
    Unfortunately this has happened with a small number of devices, and we're working on a fix right now.
    Will the Xtras app stop me from making an emergency call?
    No it won't, because you don't have to unlock your phone to make an emergency call.
    Will the Xtras app drain my battery?
    It uses about 4% of your full battery charge, depending on your device and the version of Android that you're running.

    Making sure you get your monthly discount

    How can I find out if I got my discount last month?
    Your discount for the last month is shown in your Xtras app, under 'Status'. You can also check your bill online in My Account - it'll show you in the 'Adjustments, Charges and Credits' section of your bill. You can use the Tesco Mobile pay monthly app to check your bill, too.
    Why haven't I got my discount?

    To get your Xtras discount, you need to see at least one piece of Xtras content on your phone each day for 21 days out of your billing month. Xtras will only work when you're abroad if you've got a Wi-Fi connection. So if you've been abroad and haven't used Wi-Fi or you've paused Xtras a lot during the month, this could affect your discount.

    If you register for Xtras a few days before your bill you might not see your discount on that bill but you'll see it on the next one, as long as you see at least one piece of Xtras content each day for 21 days of your billing month. The status screen on Xtras will show you when to expect the discount.

    If I change my mobile number, what happens to my Xtras discount?
    Don't worry, we'll sort it all out for you. When you ask us to swap your numbers over, we'll make sure that we also move Xtras onto your new number. You'll get your discount as normal as long as you view at least one piece of Xtras content each day for 21 days in your billing month.

    Using up data

    Will I be charged when I click through from an ad, offer or piece of content?
    You won't be charged, but you will use up data when you click through from an ad, offer or piece of content, just as you do when you go to any website on your phone. Remember that we'll give you an extra 200MB each month to cover the little bit of data that gets used up when each ad, offer or content shows on your screen, but clicking through to the internet will use up more than this.
    What happens if I use up my data allowance?

    It depends which tariff you're on. If you're on a Capped contract and you use up your data allowance, when you click through to the internet from Xtras you'll use data at your standard rate until you've reached your safety buffer. After that, Xtras will only work if you've got a Wi-Fi connection.

    If you're not on a Capped contract, you'll be able to use data to view Xtras as normal at your standard rate for data.

    To get your discount you need to view at least one piece of Xtras content each day for 21 days in your billing month. We always text you to let you know if you've nearly used up all your data, so you've got a chance to get a data bundle to last you to the end of the month.

    Personalising Xtras

    How do I change my interests, so I see different ads, offers and content?
    To change your interests, go to the 'Profile' tab in your Xtras app and tap on the pencil icon.
    Can I save an ad, offer or content so I can view it later?
    Yes, just tap on the heart icon. Then when you've got more time, you'll find it in the 'Favourites' tab in your Xtras app.

    Turning Xtras off

    How do I temporarily stop seeing Xtras ads, offers and content?
    If you just want to pause Xtras, you can go to the profile section of your Xtras app. Just choose 'Pause content and offers'. Xtras will start again in two hours to help make sure you see at least one piece of content each day for 21 days in your billing month, so you get your discount.
    How do I stop Xtras completely?
    If you don't want to see Xtras content at all anymore, you can just delete the app from your phone. Remember that this means you'll also stop getting the monthly discount and the extra 200MB data.
